Diverting Tactics

It seems that the Downing street memo might actually be getting some traction finally. Salon writes about some coverage that the Minneapolis Star-Tribune and the Boston Globe has on the memo.

I wonder if this is why President Bush held a Press Conference today. The man has held less press conferences than any President since Kennedy (and of course the invention of television). Nixon even held more. It seems President Bush wants to divert attention from this memo all he can. Good Luck. I just hope the media doesn't take the bait. Oh, wait what I am saying, of course they will. They will lap up anything Bush has to say, especially Elisabeth Bumiller from the New York Times.

Cruise Control

Has Tom Cruise gone bonkers? Well, actually, I don't think so. But anybody who has to go out of his way to prove that he is sooooo in love with somebody is hiding something.

Now, this isn't fact. But, this is based on my own personal life experience and the life experience of hundreds of people I know.

This whole Katie Holmes thing has smelled ripe from the start. If somebody as rich and powerful as Tom Cruise really wanted to date Katie Holmes don't ya think he could just google her? No, he has to have his agent (who is Tom Cruise's sister, and member of Scientology, no less.) call her and set up a meeting and then announce it to the world that the have gone on a date. This sounds more like a proud Jewish mother than a good agent.

Is this about generating buzz for Tom's upcoming new movie "War of the Worlds", (which it's doing)? Or, trying to surpass Nicole's standing as a super star (which it could be doing)? Or, stomp out those rumors that Tom Cruise is a C**k S**ker. Or, better yet--, being the cynic that I am, all three of the aforementioned.

Tom Cruise has had gay rumors circling around him for years. He's done a good job staying ahead of them. It does seem convenient that he and Nicole meet on "Days of Thunder", a terrible movie, when she was a nobody. They get married. She becomes a big star. He helps her career along. He looks like the all American family man. She becomes incredibly rich and famous, but she wants a real husband not just a beard. Mimi Rogers seemed to have the same set-up before. Unfortunately, Mimi's career didn't quite take off the way Nicole's did. And now we have Katie Holmes.

I hope this speculation isn't true. But, if it is, both Tom cruise and Katie Holmes are getting something out of it (Fame, Fortune, a good career)at the expense of gay men and lesbians everywhere. The next time a Matthew Sheppard is murdered, Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and people living lies (if this is the case) will really need to think about what they are doing.

Let's go nukulur

The Republicans have been all over the place lately shameless taking about how Democrats are obstructing the legislative process with the Filibuster over judicial nominees.

First:
Republicans have used any means necessary to prevent Democratic nominees from getting up-or-down votes in the past, including the filibuster. So their pious claims that this hasn't happened before are blatant lies. There is a great article Salon about this.

Second:
Why are the Democrats not publicly challenging this. Are they afraid to call Bill Frist, Tom Delay, President Bush, Scott McClelland, et al. lairs. Until the Democrats are willing to stand up to the Republicans, the Democrats are going to continue to lose support.

Third:
Why is the media not going to challenge this? When did they become the administrations lap dog?
