Cats & Witches

I just read this article in the New York Times online and got a good laugh. This story is funny, strange, and frustrating on too many levels. This woman and her mother are living in a rent controled apartment in Queens, NY for $521 a month (no wonder people won't give up NY apartments) and had at one point 100 cats whose care cost all of their social security disability benefits. Since the cats became a health concern (not to mention a ordor issue), the landlord wanted them evicted, but he can't get them evicted, so he is slowly getting the cats either adopted by other citizens of New York, or they will be killed. Now, the woman is a wicca and has put a curse on her landlord because he is having all of the cats removed. You can't make this stuff up.

This would make a great feature film. Much better than a re-make of Dallas, but I guess Hollywood doesn't bother to read the paper or look for creative ideas. They could go with the sitcom comedy route and cast Rosanne or better yet, they could do a modern day Rosemary's Baby, or give it a Scorsese treatment, or best of all, do a Hitchcock/Altman treatment for the film and create a film within the film where the lead character is actually pitching her life story to agents as she is going crazy and slowing murdering her mother and landlord (a la Psycho and The Player and I could play Buck Henry pitching a bad concept of a remake of Dallas in a studio head's office...). Oh well, I guess I will have to wait and see J-Lo and Travolta in Dallas......
